“Many” is used with plural countable nouns, while “much” is used with uncountable nouns; both mean “a large number or amount.”
「much」と「many」はどちらも「たくさんの」という意味です。
結論から言うと、many は「1つ、2つと数えられるもの」（books, people）、much は「数えられないもの」（water, money, time）に使います。もう1つの大事な点は、ふつうの会話の肯定文では much をあまり使わず、a lot of を使うことです。much は否定文・疑問文や、too much・so much の形でよく使われます。

よくある間違い
1. 数えられない名詞に many を使う
日本語では数えられそうに思えても、英語では数えられない名詞があります。homework・information・advice・furniture・money などは much です。
- × I got many information from the website.
- ○ I got a lot of information from the website.（そのサイトからたくさんの情報を得た）
- ○ I don’t have much information.（情報はあまりない）
2. 肯定文でいつも much を使う
much は肯定文でも文法的には使えますが、会話では a lot of や lots of のほうがずっと自然です。否定文・疑問文では much がふつうです。

- ○ We have a lot of snow in winter.（冬は雪がたくさん降る）
- ○ We don’t have much snow here.（ここではあまり雪が降らない）
ただし too much・so much・very much・as much as のように前に語がつくと、肯定文でもふつうに使います。I ate too much.（食べすぎた）
3. 値段を聞くのに How many を使う
値段は「お金の量」なので How much です。
