James had always dreamed of climbing a high mountain. He had high hopes that one day he could stand on the top of Mount Fuji. Though he lived in Tokyo, where buildings were tall and life moved at high speed, he always looked for peace in nature.
One summer, he joined a climbing tour. It was an elevated experience. The group started early in the morning. James was surprised by how low the temperature dropped as they climbed. “It’s cold up here, even though it’s summer,” he said.
While hiking, he met a woman named Hana. She also had lofty dreams—she wanted to climb Mount Everest one day. They talked about their ups and downs in life. “I searched high and low for a new goal after quitting my job,” Hana said.
When they finally reached the top, James felt a kind of natural “high.” The sky was clear, and birds flew high above them. The risk was high, but the reward was higher.
James looked at the view and thought, “This was worth the high risk. I’ll never forget it.”
