Title: “The Missing List”
Emma worked at a small bookstore downtown. Every Monday, she made a list of books to order. The list helped her stay organized. She also kept a to-do list on her desk, which included things like cleaning shelves and checking the inventory.
One morning, her coworker Jack came in and asked, “Did you make the list for the new arrivals?” Emma looked surprised. “I had it right here yesterday,” she said, pointing at her desk. But now the list was gone.
They checked the shopping list, the catalog, and even the hotel register from their last book event, but nothing helped. Emma was starting to feel confused.
Jack said, “Let’s make a new list. We can remember most of the books.” So they listed every title they could think of. In the process, Emma realized they hadn’t considered the pros and cons of each title before. This time, they did, and ended up with a better selection.
Later that day, the cleaning lady came in and said, “Is this your paper?” It was the original list! Emma laughed. “Thanks! But I think our new list is even better.”
