Hiroshi had a big choice to make. His boss said, “You can work on the new project if you finish your current task by Friday.” That was a big “if,” because the current task was huge.
He thought, “If possible, I’ll stay late every night this week.” He even told his coworker, “Let’s help each other out, provided we both agree.” His friend smiled, “Sure! No ifs and buts.”
By Thursday night, they were nearly done. Hiroshi said, “Suppose we find one more bug tomorrow?” His friend replied, “Let’s prepare tonight, in case that happens.”
On Friday morning, their code was perfect. The manager looked at them and said, “Great job. You’re on the new project now.”
Hiroshi smiled. He had worked hard, and the big “if” had become a “yes.”
