direct flight と nonstop flight の違い

2つは厳密には別の便です。nonstop flight は途中で一度も降りない便です。direct flight は便名が変わらない便を指し、途中の空港に着陸して乗客の乗り降りや給油をすることもあります。ただし日常会話や旅行サイトでは、ほぼ同じ意味で使われることも多いです。

間違えやすいポイント

1. 副詞の direct と directly の違い

direct も副詞として使えますが、主に「（寄り道せず）まっすぐ〜へ行く・送る」「（仲介なしに）直接」という決まった言い方に限られます。それ以外の「直接に」はふつう directly を使います。

2. 発音は2通りある

/dəˈrekt/、/dɪˈrekt/（ディレクト）と /daɪˈrekt/（ダイレクト）のどれも正しい発音です。強く読むのは後ろの「レ」です。

3. 「道を教えて」は direct で言える
