英語ストーリー(english story)
The Secret to Sounding Natural
Kana was an English learner who studied hard every day. One day, her teacher said, “If you want to sound more like a native speaker, you need to learn collocations.” Kana didn’t know what the word meant. Her teacher explained, “A collocation is a natural combination of words. For example, we say ‘make a decision,’ not ‘do a decision.’”
Kana was surprised. She had been using many unnatural combinations, or mismatches, in her writing. So, she decided to study collocations every morning. She wrote down typical expressions like “take a break” and “catch a cold.”
She learned that some common collocations can’t be guessed just by knowing the meaning of each word. It was a process of trial and error, but over time, her speaking and writing became more natural. Her friends noticed the change and asked her for advice. She smiled and said, “Just learn phrases, not just single words. Focus on natural collocations!”
